DVD Storage

Just a quick storage tip to share with you today for DVD's. I bet you can guess what it is by the picture above. That is an old CD binder/wallet we had that was not being used by CD's, so I thought it would be great for our DVD's. We have been storing them like this for a while now, but before that two of the three drawers in our t.v. cabinet were being taken up by all of our DVDs in their cases. I wanted a different solution and this has been working out great for us. We just flip through to find the one we want. Best part, our t.v. cabinet drawers are freed up for other things rather than being overrun by DVDs. What can you do with all those DVD cases? You could make your own labels for them to use as gifts for homemade c.d.'s, as decorations for a movie party or you can do what we did and toss them in the trash! Ha! Ha! We don't have ours organized in the binder any particular way either, but you could do that as well. Have a great weekend!

Bathroom Drawers Are Messy No More

I gave my bathroom drawers an "organization makeover" recently, so thought I'd share. This is only a pic of one of our drawers, but I also made over my make up drawer, too. I just didn't get pics of that one. Trust me, both are waaaaaay better than they started out.
I used little white plastic baskets in various sizes to divide up and hold my things. They were 2 baskets for $1! So my makeover was quite cheap! *Like* Sorry, no before pics either. I just started cleaning and organizing one day and didn't even think about taking a before.

For my drawers, I took everything out and wiped out the insides of them. Next,I got rid of the old. If you don't use it, toss it! You know, that lip stick you haven't used in three years or the body spray that you never really liked. Then I arranged my little baskets and put all of my similar things together. For instance, in my makeup drawer my baskets are grouped: eyes, mouth, hair, lips & face, and lotion. I also have a few miscellaneous items in there. For the drawer above, I grouped all of our batteries in a basket, miscellaneous child proof things(we replace these frequently), grouped my Scentsy melts together and stored my hair dryer and flat iron nicely. It's so much nicer seeing an organized drawer with everything in its place. Makes me smile! Happy organizing!

Works For Me Wednesday- Get Rid Of Magazine Clutter

It's time for another edition of Works For Me Wednesday at We Are That Family. I thought I'd share what I have done to get rid of my magazine clutter. As I've mentioned before, I like magazines so I can accumulate a lot of them.Way more than what's in that picture! Well, my magazine basket started to overflow -BIG TIME- so I had to do something about it, but I didn't want to toss all those good recipes and craft ideas I'd seen. However, there was just no way I was going to store all those magazines.

So this is what I came up with. I started tearing or cutting out the articles/recipes that I wanted to keep. I arranged them into three categories: recipes, crafts and miscellaneous. Voila! No need to keep magazines to clutter up my space anymore.

I used a large paperclip to separate the different categories and tucked them into a folder. When this one gets full, I'll just start on another one. You could also label your folder on the front to make it easier to see what's in it. The folders take up a lot less space and can be stored so much easier on my bookshelf.

If you've got magazine clutter, take control of it. Start cutting those articles and tuck them into a cute folder. Take back your space!

Works For Me Wednesday- Board Game Storage/Organization

It's Works For Me Wednesday at We Are That Family and I wanted to share how I store my board games. It works for me!

I store my board games, and we have quite a few of them since my family loves to play games, upright instead of stacked on top of each other. I store them very tightly so we can just pull one out and the others stay put. By storing them like this, we have so much more room to put them than by stacking them. . It's a good way to store a lot of games. I will say the pieces do get strewn about the box a little more, but hey, were just going to take out the pieces to play the game anyway. There are some games like Boggle and Mastermind that I still stack because they have so many pieces and I don't want to chance them falling out, but I only have a few like that.

I will say that this is not my idea. I saw my friend Kim storing her games this way years ago,but I didn't try it myself until recently. I'm glad I did. It gives me more space to store those new games we'd like to get. Thanks Kim!

Works For Me Wednesday- Scalloped Punch Basket Labels

So, why am I showing you all these baskets and that lovely can of Raid? Well, it's Works for me Wednesday time at We Are That Family and I thought I'd share my scalloped punched label tags. I recently organized my laundry room shelves a little more and used these baskets with handles to contain all the "stuff."( I actually still need to add a few more.) I didn't want to put a label directly onto the basket, so I thought these large tags would work well. They are punched using my friend's Marvy Uchida Giga Scalloped Punch.(Love that punch. Gotta get it for myself)
Then I just wrote on them what the basket contains and then tied them onto the handle with black grosgrain ribbon. I'm really liking this. My shelves weren't really messy before, but adding more baskets with the labeled tags makes it look so much neater and cleaner. My husband even noticed them and said it looked good and now he actually knows what's in those baskets. I do like to organize and like it even more when I find my materials, like these baskets, on clearance (happy dance!) and cute ways to make it pop, like the labels. Give 'em a try!

Works For Me Wednesday- Picture Album Purse Organization

It's Works For Me Wednesday time. Now hosted by We Are That Family. Her first time to host it. Yea!!!

I want to share this little bit of organization that works for me. It is what I call "picture album purse organization." (Like that name?) However, it's not my idea. I saw this in Weight Watchers' magazine a while back and thought it would be great for me. Basically, you just use a mini size photo album(you can get them at Dollar Tree) and designate certain pockets in them for things like receipts, business cards, coupons, lists, etc. All the things that seem to get tossed in your purse and create clutter. Well, that's what happens to my purse anyway, so this is great for me. I'm using a cute little embellished photo album that one of the young women from church gave me for Christmas. She monogrammed it just for me. How cute!

I have quite a few pockets set aside for receipts. You could also put tabs on the pages, but I thought they would get torn off going in and out of my purse.

I have another section for coupons.

A section for business cards and one for lists. I try to sort through it at the end of the week, but you know, that doesn't always happen.:) Cater it to your own needs. It helps me control the clutter because I can't fit EVERYTHING in my wallet.
